SPACER PLATE, BELLHOUSING

This fits a 164T flywheel/bellhousing combo. Well, it almost fits! If you do buy this plate make absolutely sure you check EVERY hole for fitment before you put everything together or you will be taking it apart or adjusting it while assembled. 1. The dowel pin holes were off just enough that I had to take a round file and elongate the holes slightly to get the plate on the back of the block. Not that big of a deal, but I shouldn't have had to do this. 2. NEXT! THE STARTER HOLE was slightly to small to fit the nose of the factory 1972 starter and I didn't find this out until the transmission was in and all bolted up. Furthermore, it was off just a little bit, so once it was enlarged (not easy with everything bolted together!!!) the starter sounded like an old Chevy that was not shimmed correctly. I ended up pulling the starter and "adjusting" the plate several times to get it to sound better, but its still not 100%. I am a mechanical engineer and ASE Master Tech and I have worked on everything from a model airplane engine, to real gas turbine aircraft engines, to 4,000-6,000 h.p. locomotive engines and I can't understand why most aftermarket stuff can't quite get it right. The dimensions for the hole locations and sizes never changed from ~1964, when ford went to the 6-bolt bellhousing, to the end of production. They literally produced millions of plates to this bellhousing pattern and everyone fits every time without any effort or modification. Note to NPD: Get with your supplier's quality assurance team and have them recheck their equipment, because I seen this same comment for your 7007-1B plate. I cannot recommend this plate in its current configuration.
