I had this bizarre problem with my fan. If I turned the key to on with the fan on it blew fine. If I cranked the engine the fan quit. After quite a bit of puzzlement over this I decided logically that since the only thing that moved was the key that it had to be somehow related to the ignition. I still even now have no idea exactly how. In these days of foreign made knock off parts, I was surprised to find an authentic Motorcraft ignition switch for my 79 F150 on the NPD website. Ordered it, installed it, problem disappeared. YAYYY, LOL.
