I don’t know how rubber is made, but I do know this rubber grommet is way too soft. Pushing in a draft tube will cause it to fall through the valve cover. Maybe it works for a PCV? After comparing it to my old one, it doesn’t have the same design or rigidity. Nothing against NPD (love em), but this part shoukd be replaced with another.

If they are hard they will not compress to be inserted into
the valve cover. Originals harden over time. Put a little WD-40 or
gasoline on the road draft tube before you push it in.
