The factory harmonic balancer for 5.0L engine was 50oz. This unit is a 0oz or neutral balance unit. They are designed for modified engines, strokers or 351W engine that require a 0oz balancer.
Installation Note:
The 289, 302, 351W engine family has used many different styles of crankshaft dampers with various pulley spacings and bolt hole combinations. Ford Racing offers pulley spacers to properly position the crank pulley. Please check installation instruction PDF chart for proper pulley spacer. See NPD partt numbers M-8510 for correct spacers.
The M-6316-D302 crankshaft damper is a neutral balance unit designed for internally balanced 289, 302 and 351W V-8s. If you have a modified engine check with engine builder for proper balancer needed.
Water pump and timing cover front seal may need to be removed prior to installation. Check instructions for more details.
Before reinstalling the water pump, ensure a minimum of 1/8" clearance exists between the damper inertia ring and the pump housing. WARNING: Some cast iron water pumps have a casting rib, which must be ground off to clear the damper.
