You are reading this now because you have a huge debate. Likely one of three scenarios: 1- my original firewall pad is beyond repair and while I am doing my restoration I need to replace it. 2 - I have read the online forums and heard the complaints about this part and how much a pain in the butt installation is going to be 3 - there’s over $100 difference between this one and the less expensive part is it going to be worth it? I too was in your shoes as I ruined my original firewall pad. Ideally, I would reuse the part unless it is too far gone. Mine was too far gone. Compared to the less expensive ones, this is thicker and looks more original. Forgiving originality it is also die cut and contoured to the curves of your firewall. It comes with hardware to mount it, however note that the hardware is not original style. So if you are going for originality, even though the pens work, they are not correct in a concourse it comes with hardware to mount it, however note that the hardware is not original style. So if you are going for originality, even though the pins work, they are not correct in a concours application. The hardest problem or issue you will encounter trying to install this will be your body’s inability to contort in such a manner to reach all corners of the pad for installation. I will also add that the less you have under your dash the easier it will be. I was working with only the wiper motor installed under the dash. Accelerator, brake pedal, and wipers were the only thing I had installed which helped access to the area. Altogether, it was about one hour of my time for the installation. And it looks great. The holes line up about 97.531% and some stretching will have to be performed. I did mine on an early Dearborn coupe with heater/ac/ auto trans. The interior build isn’t complete soI cannot yet comment on how it looks when the car is all together, but so far so good.

I purchased this item as an upgrade after returning the firewall pad from ACC as it had a ruff moon-skin poorly done spotty finish. While this pad looked nice the fitment when it arrived turns out it was was far from being close upon installation. The securing pins at each end lined up but none of the others securing holes did. I even stretching the pad but still the other holes didn't line up. The hole for the steering column and the accelerator both were way off. The hole for the Automatic harness was even worse. The A/c hole was also off and not correctly for factory air on a 1966. Generally speaking for an item over $260 this pad is an extreme disappointment especially when trying to build a fully restored San Jose car.

Have temporarily installed unit and it is properly formed to match the contours of the firewall. Holes for pins, electrical, and mechanical parts line up well. Time will tell when it gets put to use if it performs as advertised. That's a way down the road with this nut and bolt restoration!
