Kind of a foam rubber feel. Decent quality, my dog certainly appreciates having something to put her paws on while sticking her head out of the window. Beware if you install without a door panel cover (straight to the metal panel) I locked myself into the truck the first time out, had to loosen the screws up a bit so the handle could achieve full throw. Very easy to over tighten.
