Anti-Stall Throttle Return Check Diaphragm / Dashpot, Reproduction for (1967)
The dashpot (as used with a carburetor) is more accurately called a "slow closing throttle device". Different car manufacturers used them for different reasons, but the dashpot is a device to actually slow the closing of the throttle. They have been used to: (A) aid in auto transmission shifts; (B) prevent engine stalling when coming off the interstate to a stop on the off ramp; (C) as a throttle stop device to allow an artificial idle stop and then close to prevent run-on when the engine is turned off.
